Live Action & 3D Integration

Project Role: Creative Director & 3D Artist
For this project, I took on the roles of Creative Director and 3D Artist, overseeing the entire 3D pipeline to seamlessly integrate CGI with live-action footage. The client wanted to showcase their latest cleat, and my goal was to develop a visually striking approach that blended both elements flawlessly.
As Creative Director, I worked closely with the client to translate their vision into a polished final product. I also collaborated with the director to ensure that the live-action and CGI components were aligned seamlessly for a cohesive visual experience.
On the 3D side, I was responsible for all aspects of the CGI, utilizing Cinema 4D, Redshift, and Unreal Engine. I combined these tools to achieve a balance between photorealistic rendering and real-time efficiency, allowing for a flexible and high-quality workflow.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the key challenges was integrating the LiDAR scan of the cleat with the engineering file of the sole to create cohesive visual effects. The goal was to ensure both elements matched seamlessly while maintaining realism.
To achieve this, I first edited the LiDAR scan, removing the bottom half while preserving the upper structure. I then sculpted the remaining LiDAR scan around the engineering file, carefully refining the details to make it appear as a single, unified model. Once the geometry was complete, I developed materials for the sole, ensuring they matched the scanned portion for a photorealistic final render.
For this process, I utilized Cinema 4D and Redshift for precise modeling, texturing, and high-quality rendering, while leveraging Unreal Engine for real-time visualization and lighting adjustments. By combining these tools, I refined the scene efficiently while achieving a high level of realism. This workflow ensured that the CGI elements blended seamlessly with the live-action footage, delivering a polished and immersive final result.
