Live Action & 3D Integration

Development

Project Role: Creative Director & 3D Artist

For this project, I served as both Creative Director and 3D Artist, overseeing all aspects of the 3D work to ensure a seamless transition between live-action footage and CGI. The client wanted to showcase a product line in an advertisement, and my role was to develop a visually compelling approach that blended real-world footage with full CGI.

As Creative Director, I worked closely with the client to understand their vision and needs, ensuring that the final result met their expectations. I also collaborated with the director to align the live-action and CGI elements for a smooth, cohesive integration.

On the 3D side, I was responsible for:

  • Sending the gloves for LiDAR scanning to capture accurate details.

  • Taking the lacrosse head engineering file and developing materials for photorealistic rendering.

  • Modeling and texturing the lacrosse shaft from scratch.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the biggest challenges was recreating the on-set environment in 3D to match live-action footage. To achieve this, I learned Unreal Engine and utilized real-time rendering techniques to enhance efficiency and realism. This approach ensured that the CGI seamlessly blended into the live-action scenes.

Behind the Scenes

This behind-the-scenes look in Unreal Engine showcases how I recreated the environment to match the live-action footage. I modeled the background lights, added a detailed turf field, and animated the lights to mimic real-world movement, ensuring seamless integration between CGI and live-action.

This is an early test render for look development, exploring lighting and highlighting techniques to refine the final visual style.
